Q. I did the install with the phone switched off and now its asking me for the uninstall password, what is this?

A. The uninstall password is your keyword that was used during the setup phase on your PC

Q. I forgot to copy the setupUE.txt to the root of my device and the software is asking for a password to remove it – what is it?

A. The password in this instance is ERROR (This is only on the LIVE version), the demo version is set to DEMO1

Q. I am using the demo and it asks questions before it performs certain actions, are these in the live version?

A. No, the message’s are there to show what is happening during your demo experience – nothing is shown on the device once the live version is installed.

Q. Can I install remotePROTECT to another directory on my PC instead of the default?

A. The setup GUI will not function correctly unless it is installed in the default directory , if you want to just copy the CAB files onto your device and create the setup file manually then details can be found in section “Manual Install” in the setup guide.

Q. Can I install remotePROTECT to another folder on my device instead of the default?

A. No, remotePROTECT needs to be in the default folder.

Q. How come on my Pocket PC 2003 device when I run the ‘KILL’ command it does a complete hardreset but on my Windows Mobile 5.0 device it continues to show the ‘LOCK’ screen?

A. There are obvious differences between the two operating systems, the Windows Mobile 5.0 offered a way to remove all ‘user’ data and then keeping the device ‘locked’ with a message for someone to return if found. The pocket PC 2003 device would not function in this way and the only way around confidently removing the data was to perform a hard reset.

Q Does remotePROTECT work with Smart phones?

A. Yes, the latest version (1.5) works on Windows Mobile 5.0 Smart Phones.

Q, Why is there an icon call 2nd SIM on my device? What’s this used for?

A. 2nd SIM can be used if your device uses a SIM (i.e. not a CDMA device). If you have a SIM for business, which was fitted to the device during the setup of remotePROTECT and then you change the SIM to your personal one then remnotePROTECT will detect the SIM is different and lock the device. The icon lets you add the current SIM in the device as an allowed extra SIM and therefore doesn’t lock the device when swapped between the two.

Smart Phone only

Q. When the device has the LOCK screen showing I press the home key on my SmartPhone is soft reset, is this correct?

A. Yes, this is by design.

Q. When the screen is locked I pressed another button and the now the I cannot enter my password , what do I do?

A. Press the back button until the “options” button can be pressed , then select option 2 “Set Focus” – this then puts the cursor back into the password entry box.
